A wheelchair for a user whose trunk and upper extremities had developed to almost “normal” size, but who showed extreme dysmelia from the Th10 (pars thoracalis) downwards and whose lower body as a whole is enormously delayed in development. As a result, he is unable to maintain an upright posture either standing or sitting because his pelvis cannot withstand the weight of his upper body. In addition, the entire muscle tone is weakened from the Th10 downwards, which means that stabilization in the upright position is not possible even with a seat shell.
Solution
With this abdominal trolley (supplemented by a corresponding shell), the user is now able to propel his wheelchair completely autonomously. The drive wheels have been moved forward so that he can operate them while lying on his stomach and facing in the direction of travel. In the active phases, the wheelchair is tilted by 35° so that it can communicate and act better. The parking brakes have also been relocated within its reach. The tray for his ventilators is also located within his radius of action so that he can operate and handle them without assistance.
